Happy friday!!
To continue my post from yesterday, here is a video illustrating the layering technique I use.
The painting is called 'chrysanthemums' and I love this one because of it's fresh color values, banana yellows, peaches and raspberrys (sounds like a fruit salad!!)

Painting Technique
Coming from a fashion and textile background infiltrates my painting technique. I paint water based acrylics, (happy environment!!) in layers, one color at a time across the whole canvas. Each layer adds a new depth to the canvas, building an image using abstract shapes and a keen eye on negative space in much the same way that a silk screener will print layers of indecipherable individual screens to arrive at an easily recognizable image.
Opacity is varied using acrylic matt medium. I am a firm believer in sketching and studying, there is just no substitute. Consequently my sketchbook is a good friend filled with color mixes, quick pencil sketches, detailed color studies and photographs. Composition studies are color blocked and line drawn. Notes on thoughts and ideas are quickly scribbled down before they fly out my head!!
Sample pages from my sketchbook for 'Chrysanthemums.'

Welcome
My name is Emma Fashokun, I have a BA Hons in Fashion and Textile Design, after working in London I relocated to Houston Texas where I still live with my husband and four beautiful daughters.
I have my own design business run out of a studio in my house, Fashco Designs. This includes mural painting, embroidery design, mixed media artwork, original collage sheets for sale and my fine art.
This blog is to exclusively talk about the fine art contemporary florals which are my love and my discipline. I work from life, sketches and my own photography. My technique is heavily influenced by my textile design training as I build layer upon layer across the canvas, reminiscent of silk screen printing.
I will be posting pictures for your perusal and appreciate comments!
thanks
Emma
