Charcoal Hydraengea

I just added a new mixed media piece to my absolute arts portfolio, I really want to do some large hydraengea paintings, just because the complexity of the flowers are a real challenge.

I started out with photos, study and sketches as usual, and here is a mixed media study.

This is listed for sale at $145

Some more charcoal...

Two more mixed media pieces. I enjoy working this way as it is almost like studying the same image with two different disciplines within the same piece.

Available for sale here; Charcoal Cockscomb Charcoal Lily

Charcoal and Ink

One of my favorite ways of mixing media is to lightly sketch an outline with a 2B pencil. next I study the colors in the flowers and reproduce them with a light touch and a loose wrist.

After taht has dried I work over the whole piece with a soft charcoal pencil, studying structure, contrast between light and shade and especially negative space.

This is one of my favorite pieces, I particularly enjoyed playing with the composition in the prep work I did for this; 'Charcoal Daisies.'

This piece is available for sale $145 HERE.

Thanks, have a great day!
